Sukawatee Malaysia & Thai Restaurant

If you're ever wandering around Hitchin and craving a flavorful mix of Southeast Asian cuisine, Sukawatee Malaysia & Thai Restaurant is one spot that absolutely deserves your attention. Nestled at 88 Hermitage Rd, Hitchin SG5 1DG, United Kingdom, this charming eatery effortlessly brings together the bold spices of Malaysian cooking with the comforting warmth of Thai dishes. Whether you’re dining in, grabbing a takeaway, or having it delivered straight to your door, Sukawatee hits that sweet spot of authenticity, value, and downright deliciousness.

Let’s talk food-because that’s why you’re really here, right?

The Thai Green Curry here is an all-time favorite. It's got that perfect balance of creamy coconut milk, spicy green chili, and aromatic herbs. Pair it with their Egg Fried Rice or Prawn Fried Rice, and you’re set for a meal that’ll make you forget you're in the UK. Vegetarians and vegans aren’t left out either-the Drunken Noodle with Vegetables and Tofu is both hearty and flavorful, cooked just right to soak up all those rich, garlicky sauces.

If you’re someone who likes variety on a plate, the Mixed Starter is a solid choice. Think Prawn Spring Rolls, Duck Spring Rolls, Satay Chicken, and more-all in one go. It’s the kind of dish you order when you can’t decide, and it never disappoints.

Seafood lovers, take note: the Sea Bass is a standout, especially when paired with Jungle Curry for a fiery kick. On the milder end, the Panang Curry Chicken offers a rich, nutty depth that's seriously comforting.

And if you’ve got a sweet tooth, the Deep Fried Ice Cream is a must-try. Crispy on the outside, cold and creamy on the inside-it’s the kind of dessert that makes an impression. Wash it all down with their Delish Refresh Pineapple Drink or Mango Drink, which are tropical, light, and refreshing.

Beyond the food, what really elevates the experience at Sukawatee is the ambiance and service. It’s a wheelchair-accessible restaurant with thoughtful touches, offering both accessible seating and entrance, making it inclusive and comfortable for all diners. It's also a great option if you’re flying solo-thanks to its cozy setup and quick, attentive service. You’ll feel welcome whether you’re grabbing a quick bite at lunch or settling in for a relaxed dinner.

The restaurant is also popular for late-night food runs and small group dinners. It caters to different cravings and occasions. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite, a proper sit-down meal, or even a healthy food fix (yes, they've got those too), Sukawatee delivers on all fronts.

Another thing to appreciate: the drink selection. Beer, wine, spirits, and coffee are all available. Want to spice up your Thai curry with a cold brew or wind down with a glass of wine? No problem. And if you’re a fan of small plates, you’ll enjoy nibbling through their diverse menu with options that let you try a little bit of everything.

One of the things that sets Sukawatee Malaysia & Thai Restaurant apart from competitors is its authentic blend of Malaysian street food flair and classic Thai comfort dishes. It's not just another pan-Asian fusion place-it stays true to the roots of each cuisine, which is something you can taste in every dish. Plus, they don’t shy away from spice when it’s called for (hello, Drunken Noodles), but there’s always a balance that caters to different palates.

So, whether you're in it for a curry fix, craving something crispy and fried, or just want a fresh, zingy Papaya Salad to liven up your day, Sukawatee’s menu has you covered. It’s this kind of variety and authenticity that keeps people coming back, and if you haven’t been yet, you’re definitely missing out.

First time visiting Sukawatee and we are so glad that we did. On entering this tantalising and tasty thai restaurant we were greeted and made to feel welcome by some of the most polite and friendly staff we have ever encountered. Luckily there was a table available and after being shown to our seat we opted for the set A menu. All i can say is wow! The starters, which included Golden bags stuffed with minced pork and prawns, chicken satay and some other delightfully delicious thai titbits all tasted amazing and would happily order again. Onto the mains, we were served a creamy and flavoursome thai green curry and Beef with basil and chilli a good selection of rice and some mixed veg.....this was sublime and i could have eaten double if for the fact that the portions were so filling. Desert was a shared bowl of deep fried ice cream which tasted so good if not a bit indulgent which was a great end to a wonderful meal. I cant recommend sukawatee enough , well worth the money and we enjoyed it so much that we have booked a table for our anniversary. To all staff Khàawp-khun mâak.

We visited this lovely restaurant last night. Our booking was for 6:30pm and table had to be returned just before 8pm which was fine for us as we understand that other bookings had been made. We were seated and had a look through our menu, placed the orders. Food came in good time considering we ordered about 5 dishes. I have to say the staff were EXTREMELY attentive. We felt well taken care of. There was a nice atmosphere as well. It was pretty full so there were moments it got pretty loud but we didn't mind. Also was someone's birthday and the whole restaurant joined in singing her happy birthday which was lovely. Food was BEAUTIFUL. I was stuffed so they kindly packaged up the rest to take home. We've lived in Hitchin for over 2 years and alwags wanted to try this restaurant. We used to walk past and the aroma that would come from the building was captivating. So glad we finally got to go there! Price was great too. We ordered 5 dishes and it totalled to just under £50 which was amazing as we were expecting more hahaha! Will definitely be back.

We love the food here. All the authentic tastes of Thailand that you could hope for. Always busy and bustling, especially in the evenings. I would highly recommend the Chicken Khao Soi whenever it’s on the menu

Had my eye on this place for some time but only went in last week to try their food. And oh boy… they did not disappoint. Food came quick and smelled delicious the food was very tasty, we really enjoyed it. The lady serving us was really nice and friendly. I had to grab their takeout menu on the way out as it’s definitely one of my favorite places now. I haven’t tried everything on the menu yet but I’m sure it’s going to be tasty

Was nice to eat in a modern updated looking restaurant. The starter prawn spring roll was amazing. The Main, drunken noodle was not what i expected as I have had other drunken noodles which were thinner. The ones they served here was more like pasta noodles, i guess they just wanted to try something different I guess. Full of flavours though. The staff was polite, as you would expect from all the far east establishments. Thank you.
